The History of The Miller Arms

Miller arms

This picturesque Singleton pub was originally called 'The Hornby Arms' until Thomas Miller bought the entire village in 1853. He re-named it 'Miller Arms' and placed his coat of arms over the front door together with his family motto.'sibimet merces industria' which means industry is a recompense to itself.

The coat of arms can still be seen today on the front of our menus and on the wall beside the fire in the pub.

The Miller Arms was originally a working farm with stables, shippons, pig sties and land.
There is also a well which is still under the present building.

In the early days the inn was the focal point of village life and used to send horse drawn wagons providing day trips to the sea front at Blackpool.

Qualiy food has been served for a very long time and on display in the restaurant is a menu from 1969 when the pub was owned by Duttons and was affectinatley known as the Dutton rooms.

For those of you old enough to remember it was considered a very high class establishment back then with excetionally good food and a wine list over 100 bottles strong.

I am the current owner and i believe i am the first independent operator since the late 1930's.

During the last 6 years It has been our aim to restore the great reputation once bestowed on this charming building and we are still doing all we can to shake the aftermath of the microwave reigieme of the 80's and 90's

Quality freshly cooked food all the way now.... just as it should be.

Yours Truly
